Inaugural General Meeting

The Australian Psychedelic Society started off 2017 with a launch at Rainbow Serpent Festival and events nearly every month of the year, ranging from smaller music and speaking events to a movie screening and vibrant panel discussion at the State Library of Victoria. The teams from Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide met up at the recent Entheogenesis Australis 2017 Psychedelic Symposium, where we had our first stall at an event including a brand new marquee that we hope to take to many more events in 2018.

As part of our bigger plans to legitimise the discussions around psychedelics and demonstrate both the ineffective and inappropriate nature of prohibition of these substances, we will be formalising as an organisation in order to grow and have a grounded structure.

The proposed full name is the Australian Psychedelic Society Incorporated and you can read our full proposed constitution here.

Our proposed purposes are:

The purposes of the association are;

  1. Provide educational resources to the psychedelic community; – improve safety, wellbeing and promote best practice; – increase community cohesion and build support networks;

  2. Represent and advocate for the psychedelic community; – provide opportunities for the psychedelic community to have a voice on policy, legislation and community development based on best practice, human rights, and harm reduction.

  3. Support psychedelic research to increase benefits to society

We will also begin accepting members, with a membership structure soon to be finalised and announced. Finally, we will also distribute and continue to develop our processes and policies for a number of our functions, including (but not limited to) APS Chapters, events, social media and website, campaigns, political outreach and community advocacy.

You are invited to attend this pivotal point in our growing history.

All attendees will vote in order to approve our secretary and allow them to accept the rules. Executive positions required will be announced at the meeting and a number of committees for executing the functions of the organisation will be discussed and formalised.

In particular, we are looking for dedicated volunteers for the following areas:

  • E-Newsletter
  • Campaigns team (will depend on the campaigns we are running and looking to run at the time)
  • Content producers (writers, photographers, video editors, audio editors)
  • Administrative (databases, membership management)
  • Bookstore team (liaise with publishers, renew book supply, investigate local publishing opportunities)

People are likely to have skills in multiple areas and be required to liaise with other teams to achieve our objectives.

We look forward to seeing you in the new year. Help us grow in 2018!
